We conducted a survey on online training among our Finnish business contacts. We invited 588 people and got 60 responses. Here are some of the interesting results.

We asked, “What are you looking for in training”, and presented a check box list of three alternatives. The distribution of responses was as follows:

    • New view/understanding 75%
    • New information 40%
    • Readiness to make a change 58%

The first alternative is a bit hard to translate in English in one word, but what it means is internalized view or understanding that comes from experience. In other words the respondents were not interested in receiving new information. They want to understand the changes in the world and form a new view in order to make the right choices in their own businesses.

Another question was about the management themes that the respondents would find most interesting. We presented a list of topical management themes. “New ways of working” got most votes. The next two were “Social media for business” and “The change in management culture”.

When we asked about where the respondents would like to attend training we got the following distribution:

    • Totally online 28%
    • A combination of online and physical classrooms 65%
    • Totally in physical classrooms 7%

The result shows that people value the ability to meet in person, interact and socialize in learning situations. That is certainly a question that we’ll have to take into consideration when we plan future training.

The survey was a part of the launch of our new training service, COOLacademy (COOL = COllaborative Online Learning). COOLacademy kick-started in April with a webinar on new ways of working. We had four great Finnish presenters and Dave Gray of XPLANE and Dachis Group.

The webinar was a success based on the feedback that we received. We are now planning our next COOL thing.
